MIGUEL MUÑOZ
Northwestern student, aspiring journalist
I am an aspiring sports journalist with experience in sideline reporting, anchoring, writing, and social media. I am currently a junior at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.
At Northwestern, I am a sports broadcaster and Social Media Manager for NNN Sports, the sports division of NU student television; Editor-in-Chief at InsideNU, Northwestern’s premier sports news outlet and an SBNation affiliate; and play-by-play and color commentator for the student-run radio station WNUR Sports.
Additionally, I work in the production department for Northwestern’s Student U program, an on-campus Big Ten Network affiliate.
Outside of Northwestern, I am currently a communications intern at the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, and am looking for opportunities in the sports media industry.
on-air reporting
I jumped into on-air my freshman fall and never looked back. I fell in love with the creativity and spontaneity of being in front of the camera. On-air reporting has become my passion.
These are a few of my favorite clips.
writing
Writing was my entryway into the world of sports journalism. I joined my high school newspaper in ninth grade and soon realized journalism was the route I wanted to take. I continued to grow as I came to Evanston, joining InsideNU as a staff writer and now serving as co-editor-in-chief. I’ve learned the multi-faceted nature of sports writing, from running a website to maintaining a strong social media presence.
Here are a few of my proudest pieces, including one that was published in USA Today’s Hispanic Living Magazine.
anchoring
As with sideline reporting, I first dipped my toes in anchoring my freshman winter, suiting up and going behind the desk for my first-ever live show.
Since then, I’ve had the chance to learn and grow as I’ve gone behind the desk for shows and next to the monitor for segments, honing skills from my on-camera voice to behind-the-scenes production.
